Weekly Training Night

By Captain Greg Patterson
August 18, 2026

Tonight’s weekly training was a great opportunity to get our members working together, thinking through problems, and practicing skills we may need on the next call.

Ten members participated in several hands-on scenarios. We started with a simulated **dumpster fire**, focusing on fire attack and establishing a water supply to the engine. During the evolution, crews were given a few unexpected challenges, including **adding additional hose to an active hose line** and working through a **malfunctioning nozzle**. The goal wasn’t just to complete the task—it was to communicate, adapt, and solve problems as a crew.

Next, members responded to a simulated **hazardous materials incident involving a patient**. Crews had to identify the hazards, consider scene safety, determine the proper approach, and work through patient care while keeping responder safety in mind.

We finished the evening by reviewing some of our **EMS equipment**, where it is located, and how it is used.

Not every training needs to be complicated. Sometimes the best training puts crews in realistic situations, adds a few unexpected problems, and makes everyone **stop, think, communicate, and adapt.**

Great work by all ten members who came out and trained tonight. Every repetition makes us a little more prepared for the next call.
